M1 League of Legends Mid

Wave Management / Freeze Discipline

Does committing to a deliberate wave state every recall — freeze, slow-push, or hard push — actually raise my CS and open more roams than it costs?

Mid is the one lane where the wave itself is a resource to manage rather than something to clear on instinct. A freeze denies the enemy CS and baits a dive; a slow-push builds toward a wave big enough to shove and roam behind; a hard push trades CS efficiency for tempo. Most games mix all three without ever naming the choice out loud, which is exactly why it is hard to film — there is no single stat that shows up on a scoreboard for "I managed the wave well". This challenge forces the naming: call the intended state before every recall, then find out afterwards whether committing to it actually moved CS and created roam windows, or whether the instinctive clear was doing fine all along.

The rules

  1. 01 State the intended wave state out loud before every recall — freeze, slow-push, or hard push.
  2. 02 A freeze is only held when the numbers support it: my wave, the enemy's proximity, and whether I can survive being dove.
  3. 03 Log every roam the wave state enabled, and every death caused by overextending past a freeze that should have been abandoned.
  4. 04 No aimless clearing — every wave has a stated plan before the first minion dies.
